Leader Profiles

May 3, 2009
We will now be posting Troop 72 Leader Profiles on our website.  This should help new Scouts and Parents become better acquainted with the Troop Leadership.

Glenn Wagner - Assistant Scoutmaster

My scouting background goes back to when I was twelve, in Troop 22 in Cheltenham, PA. I was active in my troop, became an Eagle scout, and remained involved until I moved to the Allentown area. My best outdoor experiences, including some awesome week-long high adventure canoe trips in Canada, occurred through scouting.

I fell away from scouting after college, and while I was raising young children with my wife, Marianne. As my three sons reached Boy Scout age, I found Troop 72, where I have been involved since 1996 as an assistant scoutmaster and Troop News editor. My youngest son, Eric, has recently turned eighteen, but I intend to stay involved. I believe scouting is one of the best organizations for character development, personal responsibility, and outdoor activities. I would like to help other boys enjoy the experiences my sons and I have had through scouting.

My favorite troop events are Snowbound, winter camping, hiking to Camp Trexler, and backpacking. I’m especially fond of hiking and backpacking in remote areas. I like getting away from crowds, and find being self-sufficient with a few traveling companions to be one of the most rewarding outdoor experiences.

On the professional side, I work for Air Products as a mechanical engineer.  Other interests include photography and astronomy, although having to go to work every day usually prevents me from staying out very often to enjoy the heavens. Hiking in remote areas with dark skies makes up for that. I also enjoy bicycling, when I can get a free weekend afternoon to ride thirty or forty miles.

Dave Kutzor - Assistant Scoutmaster

Dave Kutzor

My experience with Troop 72 began as a scout in 1971.  I was a scout with the troop through 1978, achieving the rank of Life.  I felt compelled to come back to the troop    after college to offer the same experiences I enjoyed as a scout.  I have always had a love of the outdoors.  In 1986 I became an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 72.  In addition to ASM, I helped with my son’s Den when he was in Pack 72.  In 2000, I became the Advisor for Venture Crew 72 until 2006.  Since I have been with the troop and crew, I have organized and lead several High Adventure trips, weekend backpacks and campouts.

I am currently the Vice-President of the Board of Directors for Camp Spirit also known as the BOD.  The BOD originated out of the Building Committee for our organization when we moved from Camp Moritz to Camp Spirit.  On the committee I was responsible for the site development plans required in the planning process.  I have also participated in the construction of our current facilities.

My son Drew is a former scout from the troop.  He is an Eagle Scout and is an Assistant Scoutmaster with the Troop.   At this time he is serving in the U.S. Air Force and stationed in Dover, Delaware.  Being close to home still allows him to participate in some of the troops events when he is home.  He works as a survival apprentice, dealing with air force survival equipment and parachutes.  My daughter Tara was in the Venture Crew and enjoyed the challenge of hiking Mount Washington, one of the toughest experiences of her life.

The High Adventure trips included several backpacking trek on the Appalachian Trail and other trails in Pennsylvania to slackpacking in the White Mountains in New Hampshire.  I have always liked backpacking, probably because of the challenge involved and the times of solitude with nature. I feel that all the aspects of scout knowledge are utilized with backpacking treks, mentally and physically.  Hiking in the White Mountains has been one of my favorite locations for high adventure trips.  In the White Mts. the challenge is even greater, because in addition to the steep terrain you also have to deal with the weather.  That one clear day in the White Mts. makes up for the other days of rain.  I have also ran many weekend backpacking trips and wilderness survival weekends, where the boys learn live in the woods with the bare minimums. Over the years I have enjoyed attending many weekend events with the troop.

I graduated from Parkland High School in 1978 and received a mining engineering degree from Penn State.  At the present time I work as a civil engineering designer for Keystone Consulting Engineers in Wescosville.  My wife Trish and I have lived in Alburtis since 1986.  I was an Alburtis Borough Councilperson for 12 years and chairman of the Planning Commission.  Currently, I am the borough Zoning Officer and chairman of the Alburtis Borough Revitalization Committee.
