Community Service

Troop 72 is proud to participate in several on-going community service activities:

Scouting for Food
Scouting for Food directly benefits various Lehigh Valley food banks. Every November, approximately 2,000 pounds (or more) of canned and packaged food goods are collected by Troop 72 Scouts.  For 2022,
Troop 72 collected over 2,384 pounds of food for the Jordan Lutheran Church food bank.

Pennsylvania State Game Lands Cleanup
For 24 years, the Boy Scouts and Leaders of Troop 72 have cleaned up the roads and parking lots of trash on the PA State Game Lands (#205) off Route 100 in Lowhill and Heidelberg Townships. The Scouts have officially adopted the Game Lands as their responsibility to clean and maintain each year, as sanctioned by the PA Game Lands Forest Commission.

Camp Spirit Workdays
Every spring and fall we hold workdays at Camp Spirit for our sponsoring organization, the Group of Citizens, Fogelsville, PA. This helps keep the Camp Spirit property and Scout building properly maintained and looking great for the enjoyment of all of the Scouts in both Pack 72 and Troop 72.

Wreaths across America
Since 2016, Troop 72 has participated in the national program called Wreaths across America to place American Flags on the graves of Veterans for the Christmas Holidays at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown.

Cornerstone Living and Retirement Home
Boy Scouts from Troop 72 visit Cornerstone Living (formerly Jenny’s Country Homestead) each Christmas, providing Christmas carols and/or gifts to brighten the Holiday Season for the residents. This has been a Troop 72 tradition for over 30 years.

Eagle Scout Projects
Troop 72 typically averages 3 to 4 Eagle Scout projects per year. Eagle Scout projects have benefited a variety of non-profit organizations in our local communities  – Upper Macungie Township, Lower Macungie Township, South Whitehall Township, Weisenberg Township, Lowhill Township, and the city of Allentown.
